Joe,

Congratulations and welcome to the exclusive realm of Packard owners.

On this website you will find lots of Packard lovers who are Do-It-Yourselfers, want-to-be, will-be, grease-on-our-hands, mechanics, not-mechanics, drivers, collectors, and mechanically challenged, mechanically curious, and mechanically-run-out-of-ideas (help please), body men, chassis men, (you get the idea).

I would encourage you to start a Project BLOG. Repairs go fast and I know after 2 years of repairs that EVERY OLD CAR IS A PROJECT, no matter how good it looks or has been restored. Driving and repairing are continual cycles of Packard owning.

Enjoy and post a question when you get stuck.

Welcome to the world of Packards. As a suggestion, join the local Packard club. There are several 1955 experts in the club who can offer coaching and ideas on acquiring parts as required. There are many 1955 Packard parts that are still available at the local NAPA store if you know the generic part number. There is a place on this site to find that info.

The local Packard Club website is:

http://www.lonestarpackards.com/

There are also two national Packard clubs where you can find more info:

http://www.packardclub.org/

http://www.packardsinternational.com/

Please join the Lone Star Club. They are active and can offer a lot of advice.

Best wishes

Does it have any lifter clatter????

How many miles are on the car?????

IF and WHEN u remove the power brake unit please check to see how much (IF ANY) brake fluid is in the vacuum power cannister. NOT the master cylinder itself but INSIDE the vacuum power canister.

No lifter clatter at all, starts right up and runs smoothe, just some exhaust leaks further out back, thanks for the advice on the brakes, will do -- the miles are about 75,000+ total, the speedo was replaced at 41,000+ and that was documented as well and it shows 36,000+(don't have the numbers in front of me )-- thanks to all for the info -- taking it all in and will slowly get it all together

Hey Joe! Welcome to where I started out only two months ago. I jumped in with both feet too and learned to swim really fast thanks to some help from these guys. Which I find interesting because I assumed from the level of knowledge floating around that I was getting sage advice from seasoned Yoda-esque masters. A lot of you are young pups like me here at 33. Good luck with what looks like is going to be a fun car!

thankyou sir -- I'll have to admit though I'm seeking more "Yoda-esque" knowledge than I'm imparting LOL -- I'm surprised at the number of people our age too -- its great that we are keeping the hobby alive but I can guarantee you without the old schools around we would all be lost --

Some of us young (32) pups have family that have been building packards since the end of wwII and have "taught us well" and after having those same men start us at a young age (10) we HAVE become seasoned!
