Roosevelt 1936 Buenos Aires Packard

While trying to get more scanning done form Dan Yocum collection I came across several old magazines from 1930s -1960s. I found this picture in the January 16, 1940 of LOOK Magazine. It's from a visit to Buenos Aires in 1936 by Roosevelt. Is this a Packard with custom coachwork? The rear axle hub looks to be Packard. But I have never seen that chrome cap over the side mount.

Kev, large chrome cap as you call it corresponds to the steel disc wheel.

Thanks Dave for the info. First time I have seen it.

Curious also about the rigid glass on the 2nd cowl, I have seen the smaller folding style windshields on the dual cowls, but that looks far more substantial.

I'd almost bet that second cowl was made & reinforced to give the honored individual something to hold on to while standing and waving to the crowd--

The chrome cap is most likely a lock disguised as hub cap. These were available for various makes of cars with spares that were carried outside such as sidemounts. I have one a little smaller than that one.

The reinforced cowl as HH56 indicates was most likely due to the fact that FDR had Poliomylitis and could not stand nor walk on his own.

The car (in the original post) appears to be a 1929 640 touring. The window in the rear is just an accessory windshield... no cowl. The spare-tire cap is standard for the spare on disc wheels and artillery wheels, and has a lock on it.

The car in the photo that Mal brought up from the archives is just plane wrong. Someone has taken a disc wheel spare cover and put it on a wire wheel. It is my opinion that car was restored in a most distasteful way, as well. But that's just my opinion.

This photo from the archives shows the correct smaller cap used on the wire wheel spare tire.

Someone writes:
"It is my opinion that car was restored in a most distasteful way.."

Author of that statement probably needs to read the new ettiquette rules of this website.
