Perhaps the move to the right hand side for the ignition switch was because of the key-start which was introduced in '54. Maybe it was deemed easier to operate the key-start with the right hand since most folks are right handed. Just guessing here.

Kev, just spoke with Ken about the location of his factory power antenna switch on his 54 Cavalier (300). Center-to-center, the hole is 5-1/4 to the left of the headlight switch, and exactly in line with it horizontally.

For the next guy needing it I created a Accessory Switch mounting template for the 51-54 Packard and Clippers that you can print out and tape to the dash for placement. Unlike the diagram in the Service Manual, this one includes the ash receiver placement on the '54 models to help with alignment and is in the correct scale for printing.

The template is here:

Great idea on the template and maybe more could be contributed by those who have them--mirrors, antenna masts, etc.
Not to quibble but there is a mislabeling on the template which might confuse some not familiar. 51-53 the ign switch was where the antenna is located in 54. In those years the antenna sw was located where the 54 ashtray is. Speaker & headlight sw stays constant location wise 51-4.

DoH! Howard, thanks for pointing that out. I will get that fixed.

On a related topic:

Does anyone have a picture of what the antenna base gasket looks like. I have the plastic piece that is goes between the fender and the ferrel. But Brian told me there is another base gasket I am missing which helps to lock everything in position. But I need a picture to visualize what it is supposed to look like.

This would be on the 55/56 models with power Antennas.

Thanks,

As memory serves, gasket looks like this one from Steele and may be the same one. Maybe the dimensions would be enough to tell if it fits your plastic piece. No mention of a front later one from Steele--just rears.

Also after looking at the picture of 54 sr dash again, am wondering if the speaker switch is in the same location as 51-3 but rather also at 5 + inches to put it directly under the antenna.

Looking at the senior dash picture posted above you may be right. There could be a change in '54. I guess we will need someone with a factory/dealer installed switch to tell us. I was basing the position on this diagram form the 51-54 Service Manual. But it is possible that it could be wrong for '54 as it doesnt have the '54s ash receiver layout. If someone can confirm the Speaker Switch position in '54 then I can make a change to the diagram to show both positions. But I will fix the ignition/antenna switch placement for '53 and prior in the mean time.

Howard,

Diagram is updated and I added the possible 1954 variant for the speaker switch location. Hopefully we can confirm that one way or another, and then I will formalize the change.

Dave,

Does Ken's Cavalier have the rear speaker switch accessory? If so could I trouble you for another assist on it's location.

Thanks,
