BigKev,

Thanks. I must be going bigger than the pic size allowed. I'll have to call in my technical support, AKA #1 Son, to help me with it soon.

BTY just tried again, no luck, in fact I only managed to delete the picture of my '41 somehow!

Another tip on the Chat Room:

You can leave it Chat Room window open and in the background, and if a new message arrives, it should play a 'Chirp' noise.

That was you can keep working, or surfing without have to have that in the foregound at all times.

I made some code changes to the Chat Room to allow it to load faster. The person that wrote the original code for the chatroom module was using files to store and retrieve the chat conversations. That is very slow and must be read in a linear fashion. I converted it to use a database for storage. It should now be far more efficient. I also fix several bugs that were in the core code.

The joys of free open source code.

Please let me know if you have any problem with it.

Thanks,

BigKev,

I typed up the message below in the chatroom but it won't send it. Am I doing something wrong?

Thanks

BigKev, Ignore the gobbledegook - looks like I'm back with an Avatar. Just kept trying, had to jump between 2 computers because mine doesn't have the Microsoft programs like word and excel so my son tells me. Thanks for your help. All the best. Mal

Mal, good to see you back with an Avatar!

I think there maybe a character limit on length of each chat room message. I will have to check on that.

Umm, yeah, the chat's not taking any posts normally, it's erratic if at all. Mmm, yeah, we're gonna have to have you fix that, Kevin!

Eric said it and RedRon and I second it. What should have been a pleasurable interactive experience, especially for a confirmed luddite like me, was pure frustration.

Sorry Kev - But it needs fixing or improvement.

Can you explain in more detail what you guys are seeing so I can reproduce it?

I added 20 messages in a row, and it appeared to work just fine when I tested it.

Last night, it would only take about every 5th message I'd type. I did one message twice. You'd type something, hit "Send", and NOTHING would happen. You'd do this 5 or 6 times and finally, maybe, a message would get through.

I agree - maybe one out of every 5 or 6 messages posted. The rest just disappeared. We (Turbopackman, Ozstatman, and myself) even took turns responding. Personally I tried alternating between the SEND BUTTON and using ENTER on the keyboard. Nothing helped.
