1954 Packard Clipper Seat Handle Question

I bought the front seat handle shown in the picture below, however, when I went to put it on something was wrong. Either, I'm missing parts or my front seat was switched out or maybe I'm doing something wrong. In any event, does someone know if this is the right handle or do I have a replacement front seat? Any advice is appreciated - tks

I'm wondering if there is an error in parts book. If you have a 5482 or 5485, there is a separate listing for a handle for use with stamped seat--yet the same part number is listed as for all the others and I believe that is the standard one you have.

I suspect this may fall into the "things are different for that model Clipper" problem Kev has run into many times. From your picture, I suspect you may need this type handle which packardsl has on his ebay store currently or at least something very similar.http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1955-Packard-Clipper-Seat-Knob-Green-469059-NOS-_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem4a939b0854QQitemZ320303990868QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories

Great timing on this question as I just pulled the seat out of my car to vacuum up the rat nesting and give me easier access to pull out the dash.

The part you bought is for a Senior car.

The '54 Clippers just have a simple plastic knob the same color as the seat surround that pushes onto that metal lever you see on your seat in the picture.

I'll try to get you a picture of what it look like.

Thanks Guys - I wonder if the ones on Ebay that say for a 55 would fit? Probably. Hopefully, I can return the seat handle item # 363144. It cost me $65 and was never used.

If you tell them that it is listed as the incorrect part, then they should take it as a return. '54 Clippers are an odd best as far as parts go. Some are the same as '53 Clippers, other parts are like '55 Clippers. It was for sure a transition year!

I'm pretty sure the '55 Clipper handles are the same part. These came it different colors and should match the plastic seat surround. Here is the actual handle that was on my '54 Clipper Deluxe seat.

For the price, I'd grab it. You can always paint it to match & secure with something if needed until something better comes along.

Frank, you will probably get more responses to your questions if you post them on the appropriate discussion forum. Your questions about your 1954 would probably be seen by more people interested in that year if they were posted on the prewar discussion form instead of the V-8 and Modifications forums. This just helps all of us with interest in particular years. Glad you found answers to your questions. And, by the way - Welcome to Packard Info.
