Can anyone tell me what other years, if any, are interchangeable with 1941 120 Front Shock Absorbers?

According to Hollander's Interchange Manual, the 1939 Six and Eight, the 1940 chassis 1804, 05, 06, 07 and 08, all 1941, and 1942-46 chassis 2021, 2004, 2005, 2005, 2007, 2008 and 2020 will interchange. However that doesn't mean that the valving is identical so ride characteristics may be different.

Thanks, This lets me expand my search parameters somewhat. Although in the end I imagine I'll probably have to get the present ones rebuilt.

Sorry, but another question. From the above it looks like the 1939 110 & 120 are the same. While for 1940 they appear to be the Senior cars and not the 110 & 120 = 1800 & 1801 respectively, I think. Is this correct or am I misinterpreting your advice?

I'd be careful with the shocks from a '40. The 1935-1941 parts manual seems to indicate that for the 1800-1801 there is no left/right designation while all other years show different part numbers for the left and right shock absorber. The manual also shows '2' per car for the 1800-1801 while the other years show '1' per car (1 left, 1 right). I know that I can't swap the left for the right on my '41.

As 'Mr. Dyneto' pointed out, the different part numbers may apply to the same basic shock body but indicate different compression/rebound valve values contained within. The parts manual lists over 40 different valve rebound/compression codes for these 6 years alone. While the shocks from my '41 limo might bolt right into your 120, I suspect it would ride like a brick.

The front shocks on a 1940 S-8 WILL mount on either side, though I don't know if there is any problem with doing so. I accidentally mounted mine backwards, then when I noticed, I swapped them back (no driving in between). My original set DID have different markings on them 1966 C&D.
I don't know why the 1941-42 wouldn't mount backwards, as it's the same chassis and same shocks. My question is... Would it be detrimental to the shock if installed on the wrong side?
