I just noticed that the rearview mirror casing on our Caribbean is painted(?) sort of flat gray. Do anyone know if this is proper or if it is some other color or should be chromed?

Thank you. I hadn't noticed it before, but the flat gray just didn't look right.

The back of my mirror is flat gray. Perhaps your mirror was replaced with a '54 Clipper mirror at some point.

Let's get clear, are we speaking of the interior mirror, or an exterior mirror? I took the question to be an exterior mirror.

I am referring to the interior mirror in the front window. The non-mirrored side of the mirror is flat gray, while the post that attaches it to the window molding is chrome-plated.

AHAH! I took it to mean the outside mirror, sorry. I can't answer definately but the backside of the interior RV mirror on my 54 Patrician was painted the darker of the two body colors on the back (the upper dashboard color). I have a friend down the street with an unmolested 53 Caribbean and I'll ask him about his and edit this post tomorrow with the info.

RIght, i have a 54 convert. and the rear view interior mirror is originally chrome.
I know that my grandfather's 53 Cavalier also had a chrome mirror.
