Hi all,
A friend of mine is rewiring his Packard and does not have the use of a computor. He wants to know what gauge cable he should use to wire up his headlamps and a good source of supply for pre-war style cable.

thanks

T.C.

You didn't mention a year but I suspect all the 6v cars would be very similar. The 37, 41, 42 and a couple of other wiring diagrams say 14ga was used for the headlights. The most thorough and best reading quality diagram to download and get a general idea of what size was used on anything would be the 42 20th series although the colors may have differed by year so wouldn't use it for that.https://www.packardinfo.com/xoops/html/downloads/wirediagrams/1942%2020th%20Series%20All.pdf

Most of the loom places sell the proper color wiring by the foot. You would need to identify the color and pattern of what you need unless you have a wiring chart that calls it out. Rhode Island wiringhttp://www.riwire.com/ has a good color page showing cables and pattern identification, YnZhttp://www.ynzyesterdaysparts.com/ has a good wire and connector catalog to download.

One the chance that the current or some future owner might want to change over to halogen bulbs, you might put that into consideration when choosing the wire size. Bulb data for the common of-the-era 32 cp headlamp bulbs for Packard shows a draw of about 4.15 amps per filament.
