Nice, but no 2x4 w/Batwing, so to me it's not a Caribbean since that combo could be had at the time.

Its not a Caribbean. Look at the serial number. Just because someone did something to the car doesn't make it something it isn't. If you read this forum, all of us have done something non original to our cars, doesn't make the car anything but what it is. The dealers were trying to make money and did what they wanted to make sales, (kinda like today).

It is nice. Another senior car with manual windows. Hope the "V"s are put back in the tail lights before it sells & wonder where the work was done. California plates but MO dealer. Wasn't there another Caribbean "restored" & for sale by a museum in MO?

Why would anyone go to this much expense (even to the Caribbean interior) without changing the manifolds, carbs and batwing aircleaner, all of which were available through the dealer in 1955 or 56???

Probably a simple matter of cost vs profit. If they (a dealer) could get a 400 to look enough like a Caribbean to justify a hefty price premium without messing under the hood... why would they? Speaking of the hood... they didn't replace that with a Caribbean hood either.

The ONLY thing I can spot on the car that is Caribbean is the side trim. Interior is stock 400. A dealer could have had that ready for you by the following afternoon if he had the trim spears in stock.

Documentation, documentation, documentation! Granted it appears to be a lovely restoration, but without a dealer's pre-delivery invoice showing the alternations, IMO it shouldn't be priced any higher than a 400 in the same condition. And there are those who might say it should be priced lower.
