Hi everyone

Been away a while - but my restoration of my 1948 22nd Series Touring Sedan is well under way towards completion (now in year three of the work) and hoping to have it completed by April of 2012.

Small snag however as now we have the door interior working parts out of storage we have found that the fur flexi covered water stops which fit into the outside door panels to stop the ingress of rain into the door are truly ROTTEN.

Speaking using the front drivers door as an example - these are the ones that go from the quarter vent uprights to the curve up the rear of the main side front window glass.

In my case the fur flexi bit is vertually non-existent and the metal bit completly rotten.

Anyone know if these are available from any of the Packard Specialists please ?

The material you are describing sounds like window channel, it's pretty much a standard item widely available. Try Restoration Specialties, Windber PA. Their catalog that you can download from their website is very useful for this type of item (and others).

Thanks - sorry for mis-information due to your AMERICAN terminology and my lack of knowledge of same !! - you see "window channel" in the USA is the same here in the UK -so I know its not that - but looking at the first reply from Randy to my query what I'm looking for are "outer belt strips" - however I didn't realise that it appears that there is also an "inner belt strip" - would that be applicable to my 22nd Series Touring Sedan ? or is that only fitted to convertibles ?

There is no evidence at all of any "inner belt strips" ever being on my car - but it was previously restored and they could possibly have been lost and not refixed for some reason !

Believe the inner belt strips are attached to the woodgrained interior finish garnish moldings.

Yes - come to thinking about it you are right - those bits are with the Restorers and I've not seen them for a while hence I'd forgotten they are attached - need to inspect them to check the state of the furflex on them.

UPDATE 6TH DECEMBER 2011

Didn't expect to but have found THREE places over here in the UK who seem to do what I'm looking for so I've sent for samples so I can check them out to see if any would be okay and if so which is best.

However no one either in the USA or here does that clever little curving flick up at the end of each piece - they only sell straight pieces, mostly long bits to cut to length.

Do I assume that most of you have fitted them straight ? and hoped for the best regarding water ingress OR have you found a way to fabricate/manipulate these curved up ends ?

Love to hear from someone who has replaced these before I start.

Also, how do one actually attach these to the door and the woodgrain window frame? Glue...???

Anyway, can also get the straight ones here, but no nice curves as well.

Abandoned trying to replace the one with the curved-up end fitted to the inside window trim (which is chrome on my car) but will be fitting a straight piece under it (glued on )actually we have cleaned and "fluffed" up the "furflex" quite well but adding a second new bit we consider will do no harm.

On the outside we have removed the old bits (practically nothing was left anyways)and abandoned them in favour of Woolies window to door rubber weatherstrip (tiny clips AND glue to keep in position)okay I know not strictly to spec. but hey it'll keep the water out - this is England where it rains a lot.

I thought you said in your comment on my other Topic (22nd Series door problem - - )that you had used the Roto-Lokit kit - but someone thought that you meant you'd cured it some other way. Would you mind clearing this up please - I don't want to saw away at my car to fit the kit and find I can't !!!!
