Position of engine number on a "G" Super 8...

More than a couple of years ago, I picked up a spare Super 8 engine. I was looking at it yesterday and while the number on the engine is a "G414223C" the number "pad" is in the middle of the block, not at the rear like other 22nd, 23rd series engines. Is this a replacement engine? Also, what is the "C" mean, if anything.

Thanks,

Mark

G41XXXX would be a 22nd series (48) 327 5 main engine and the number located in the middle of block is correct for the 40-50 engines. Pictures of many engines showing number locations are now available on the engine serial number reference list revision of 2/27/12.

The C indicates a change to a different type of piston and ring as explained in TB 48T-9.
