And speaking of purists, O_D are you there? I contacted the seller who kindly provided details of the numbers on the car, and some of the ownership details, being:

"...The previous owner of the Packard Mr K.D.W... of Penshurst. I Purchased it 09/03/09 from His Wife as he had passed away a few years earlier, apparently he was a member of the The Packard Automobile Club of Australia. I have in my possession The Last NSW registration Papers of 1982
The Body Number is <652747>
The Tag numbers are 1612 6116
The NSW Chassis stamped numbers are 308504..."

Dave, trust these numbers are useful, although the last one cited may be a number punched into the chassis to satisfy local Registration requirements.

Mal, thanks for the #s. I now have VN and corresponding thief-proof data on close to 2300 Packards and it will soon be time for publication of an update.
