1951 Packard 200 What-If

Here's a simple before/after mod of the 200 sedan. One of my favorites for these years. Love the proportions, clean lines and "private" C-pillar. Would bring it up to 400 specs inside, underhood and with wheels/tires and hood ornament.

Hi Paul

Now, add 5" to the front fenders and hood, raise the rear bumper, wipe away the rear fender character line, push the dogleg up and open the wheelhouse to match the front.

Hi Steve - I created your car but couldn't upload. File size is only 81 KB versus 2048 KB allowed. Dimensions are only 750 x 535. Something is wrong with the site, have had this problem many times of late.

I like the suggestions offered above, but there is something about the shape of the top of the rear door window that, to me, does not look quite right. I think it would look better if it repeated the shape of the front door window. What do you think?

Hmm, am not sure. The door was moved forward 5 inches to be able to use the 300/400's chrome trim at the bottom of the C-pillar. The window frame remained in tact except that it was cut short at the forward section a total of 5 inches minus the former space between the front and rear window frames. I tried to "live with" the shape but admittedly it is a tight fit, the rear window frame's curve straightening out just as it hits the front door's window frame. The hope was to minimize the amount of rework, were this custom to have been done back in the day or at some future point. The '61 Lincoln Continental greenhouse proportions were what I was after.

Feel free to download and modify my design if you wish to rework it.

Not sure about the practicality of that modification to the rear door window frame.

I know more than one person who's complained of banging their head against the roof rail when getting into the rear seat of even a stock Patrician.

Great point. Like the Lincoln, this design is about style in a 4-door (for those who like it).

Is it just me or is everyone locked out of uploading images?

Anyone can upload images. If they are not uploading, then they are just too big. Resize them, and then you can upload.
