Hub Caps

Is there some site that may show photos of the various style hub caps that were correct for Packards throughout the years. Perhaps I could search through some of the various year's brochures, but I thought that there might be some place to see that various year's styles side by side?

That may be an interesting side project for everyone to take a picture of their hubcaps and send them it, then I could turn that into a kind of hubcap-timeline.

Just throwing out ideas.

Kevin:

Great suggestion; my problem is that I just saw my 1940-120 for the first time a few days ago, and it has small hubcaps on it that do not look the same as what I have seen in pictures of other 1940 Packards. The Packard script painted black crosses the Packard hexagon painted red in the center of the cap. These hub caps fit well on the 16" wheels but I think they must come from an earlier year, or perhaps from one of the senior cars.

So I could give you a photo of these hub caps, but can't vouch for whether or not they are correct for my year/model.

The hubcap you describe is indeed a 1940 hubcap. In fact, 1940 was the only year it was offered as an option (I believe) on the 120, 160, and 180. "Kanter Auto Products" has in the past sent a one page color sheet for Packard hubcaps from 1937 to 1941 with their Packard Parts List. It shows the different hubcaps that fit the different cars. It does not however give the size. I just purchased four new caps like you have and know the inside lip is 7-5/8 inches. I think this is the larger size cap in the above series as I have several 110 caps that are smaller. I don't know about the big seniors. Also there are some for sale right now on eBay.

Well if folks want to start posting pictures in here of what hubs caps are proper for certain years/series/models, then I will take those and turn them into a visual catalog.

Kev:

Here is what the caps look like on my 1940 120. Mine are 16" wheels and I suspect that the one pictured is also on a 16" wheel; it also exhibits the optional trim rings.

I have collected a lot of Packard photos over the years and so I have to take the word of the person who orininally posted them as to what they depict. The second picture is supposed to be a 1940 180.

top is a 1948 Super 8 (painted). Bottom is a 1948 Custom 8 (cloisonne)

I think the hubcaps may have been the same for the super 8's and custom 8's from 1946-1950

Maybe while we're at it, it might be nice to show the various wheels used each year, wheel size, lug bolt pattern, size, etc?

I have a few 8x10 factory or copies of factory photos of mid thirties thru fifties that may be of help. I forgot how to scan them to your site. And do they need to be reduced. Thanks
