Would a 56 clipper have (engine to body) matching numbers. I thought this idea was applicable only to mid 70's muscle cars.

Vehicle number and motor number (not the Utica # but the motor number up front near the oil filler) should match. Beyond that there really isn't any number-matching. Often dealer invoices would give both motor and transmission numbers but whether these records existed at a Detroit factory level is unknown, at least to me, but certainly the Twin Ultramatic Utica prefix should match the engine Utica prefix.
