There are mounting screw locations in the middle of the defroster slots (red circles) but their position puts them in the middle of the under dash defrost air outlet so no place for them to screw into. Screws are listed as being #8 x 1 3/4" sheetmetal. Does anyone have a parts car apart or else might know what was done to provide something for the screws to thread into.

Could the nozzle have a center tab for a screw like this modern one?

Thanks for the thought but a tab like that is not present. I looked for any place where a screw might have entered the duct but they are just oval shaped holes about 7 inches long x 3/4 wide with straight smooth sides. They mount to the bottom of windshield structure with a screw on each end & the screw in the finish molding points directly down into space in the center of opening.

I was thinking there might have been some sort of narrow clip spanning across the duct somehow but don't see any obvious way it would have been secured.

Howard, I feel honored to finally, to maybe help you for a change. I say maybe because what I see in one my one Packard it looks like the screws go into the middle of the defrost vent went into the molding. Hopefully later I can get to the other one and check it out also. But until then here are a few pictures.

Wes, Thanks! Your photos did the trick and I found the holes. Windshield rubber had dropped down a tad and I didn't get my head low enough to see up under the edge. Now to find long chrome screws for those two spots without having to buy a box of 100.

Hi Howard, a couple more pictures, one of the screw and the other with the screw in-place to be screwed in.
True Value has a collection of screws in the gray (or some color, different colors different kinds of screws) trays that you can buy separate would be a good place to look.
