What is the correct size for the zerk grease fittings on a 47 Custom. Would they be the same for a 48 model?

Here are the zerk fittings as listed in the utility section of the 48-54 parts book. This may not be all of them. If it was a fitting that might be exclusive to one item it may not show as a general use commodity or if it was used for multiple years before 48 and later it may have been spec'd in the utility section of an earlier parts manual. In the case of a 47 Clipper, if it does not show as used in 48 it will probably be found in the 35-41 manual since there is no utility section in the Clipper parts manual.

As you can see there is no fixed size or type as the fitting used depends on the construction or how big the piece it goes into might be or the angle needed to have a grease gun nozzle reach. There are also several press in fittings rather than threaded in as depicted by "drive fit" in their descriptions.

To get an idea of what size fitting you need find the part you want to know about in the plate drawings of the parts book and note the group number. Then find the group listings to get the actual part number of the piece used in that chassis or year. At the end of the group listings there is generally a few hardware items such as bolts, plugs, zerk fittings etc that might also be used to attach or service the part. If a part is the same or similar but a zerk fitting is different between years there should be more than one choice and a chassis number designation will show which fitting is for which year. Find the part number for the fitting that might be on the actual part used in your year or chassis and compare it to the list.
