1948-1950 Parts Identificiation

I’m not too knowledgeable with the ‘48-‘50 era as I had only one (a Henney-Packard Nu-3-Way Landaulet) but in the current work in moving parts about in my shop so that it can be insulated, I’ve come across a few which I’ve identified in general but need specifics.

One is the battery hold-down. Although I realize that 1955 used the long narrow battery, I believe this one is from 1948-‘50 but what I don’t know is whether it’s for the passenger cars or the Henney-Packard which have different numbers in the parts book. Is there a way to tell them apart or dimensions from the passenger car’s to compare?

The other is a very nice window switch. Is it for a specific year or range of years? I’m guessing 1948-‘50 again.

There may be others too.

Hi Don; You are correct in the window or seat switch. The battery hold down is not correct at least for normal 48-50's, want a picture? Dell

PS I believe you are in the bay area during some part of the year, If to far apart and still interested in 41 guards you could give them a hug. Dell

Yes, please, if it’s not too much trouble and sorry for the terribly dark photo. My iPhone died yesterday and my iPad does not have flash!

(Got the phone back online but it meant a reset to factory settings, then a restoration of a Cloud backup, all difficult since I run Linux on my PC!)

Here’s another and I believe I asked about it years ago but not sure if the answer was accurate or not. It was stated that it was a cowl vent handle but on those, pushing the knob down opens it yet on this, when pushed down, the mechanism pulls rather than pushes so could it be a hood release and if so, which side?

Also, there are these two locks which look the same on the front but the shafts are different. Both are square but one is a little longer with a flat tang at the end while the other is square all the way to the end. The longer one is 5-1/4” and the shorter is 4-5/8”, both of which are approximate measurements.

And finally, I found an AutoLite generator with the number GDZ-4801-A. The parts book shows that number but with G, F, T or V at the end and primarily for Custom Eight models. Does the A signify that it is different?

That is a hood release. There is a right and left with the same basic design used on Clippers and the 22/23 series. There is a different part number for the 22/23 series and I do not know what the difference might be so cannot say if that one is the Clipper version or the later version..

The hood latch lever is for the left side and believe it is for 1948-50 models with the ivory coloured knob. From what I remember the knob for the earlier Clipper models was a darker colour.

The lock with the stepped down end is for 1948-50 and I believe that the one with the square end is for 1941-47 Clippers.

The GDZ-4801A generator is for many Chrysler products in the 1939 to 1949 year range. It is a 35 Amp unit and all parts except the pulley are the same as the Packard generators in the GDZ-4801 series.

Don; This is the correct battery hold down for I believe the group 3 battery.

Thank you, Dell! I can see that it is considerably different than the one I have which appears to be wider. If for a 1948 Henney-Packard such as the one I used to have, it might have been left behind when it was sold.

Don;I have found it necessary to remove one or both of long side straps from the inside of the end pieces and weld them to the outside as the new batteries are a little wider. Dell
