Does anyone have an idea of the weight of a 1951-1954 5-main 327 short block? It has the crank, pistons, rods, cam and valves along with timing chain but no head, pan, valve covers or other accessories. I’m guessing about 650 lbs but perhaps closer to 750 lbs. I need the information in order to get a shipping quote.

I believe 925 lbs for a complete engine.

Short answer:

About 1050 lbs for the engine and ultramatic

About 750 lbs for just the engine.

Thank you! It seems that the weight estimates are all over the place and none are for short block with nothing attached except the crank, pistons and cam/valve assembly. They appear to be for a complete engine or an empty block.

Roughly it would seem (also there was something about that in the thread) if you took off the starter, generator, carburetor, manifolds, air cleaner that would be around 200# of weight, so maybe 550#-600# for the engine w/o all that stuff? Since the block itself is 280#, the crankshaft is like 100# itself, add pistons, valves, head, water pump, timing chain, etc. maybe 200# so 550#. Something around there.

That sounds close to my original guess too and it close enough for the purpose. No water pump but it does have the complete valve train including chain. Thank you!
