Hi,
from my steering gear on the model 120, built in 1937, an electric cable comes out of the bottom of the steering gear. what is it for?

Greetings and thanks Mike

I'm going to say horn wire.

It is the horn wire and right where it exits the box sometimes grease and heat makes the wire insulation fail resulting in intermittent grounds and the horn blowing. Keep both that location and the insulated wire and terminal at the other end of the shaft in mind if your horn sometimes blows for no reason when turning a corner.

You can see a cutaway of the box showing the special channel and wire in this parts drawing. https://packardinfo.com/xoops/html/mod ... =2465&partslist=1935-1941

Just joking. As Howard writes, it is the wire for the horns.
