i would like to be able to judge whether the main radiator on my clipper is providing enough cooling power. I have my doubts.
I measure a difference of approx. 10 °C or 50°F between the top and bottom of the inlet and outlet. Is this a normal cooling capacity?

That difference should be quite OK. A change of 10 degrees C is actually a change of 18 degrees Fahrenheit which is not bad with the car standing idling.

If you are having troubles with heating you might try flushing your system with water mixed with oxalic acid as that will dissolve rust flakes and scum.
