Wanted to Buy 1955-56 Caribbean

Hi All,

I've fallen in love with the 55-56 Caribbean, in the emerald/jade/ivory, and would love to own one. I did find a gem and was almost going to go through with it but ended up being a scammer. I live in Australia so happy to import. Can need some work doing to it, but would rather just get in and drive and show her off. If you know of any reputable websites to visit, then shout out and I'll have a look. I may also consider the 400, patrician or executive. Thanks everyone, your knowledge and passion for these beautiful cars is fantastic.

Glad to see your interest!

Just in case you aren't aware, the 400/Patrician/Executive are each much more common, and much cheaper, than a Caribbean. I'm talking like, $10k will get you the same condition one of those as probably $50k will be in a Caribbean, plus for any Caribbean for sale there will probably be 10 of the others for sale, combined. And you can get show quality for about $25k.

(All price estimates USD, = 1.5 AUD)

One other minor thing, the 56 engines will need 95-98 (Australian) octane fuel... the 55 engines will run on regular 91.

'55 400. Needs aesthetic parts put back on, and electrical system sorted.
'55 Clipper Deluxe. Engine is stuck-ish.

G'day Tigeress1517,
to PackardInfo, good to see another Aussie on board!

There's at least one '55 Caribbean Convertible Coupe in Australia. Owned by a Packard Automobile Club of Australia member who acquired it a couple of years ago from another PACA member. Good luck with your search!

If you'd like to join PACA, you can download a membership application form from the link.
Note, there are a number of PACA members in WA.

And WHEN. not if, you get a Packard please include it here in PackardInfo's Packard Vehicle Registry.

EDIT - Couple of Caribbeans on the Hemmings Site. Another site you might keep an eye on is Tom Laferriere Classic Cars

I have a lead on 1955 Caribbean #3. It is for sale, along with a cache of many, many, many parts (including many NOS). It's a good solid car, but in need of restoration. Also, the engine has been replaced with a correct unit. Supposedly the correct original engine's whereabouts is known (or, it was a few years ago).

I found no rust. Other than mechanical peculiarities, which IMHO would need a specialist (transmission and suspension), it would be a good car for an amateur to take on. The lower quarter looks worse in the photo than it is. There must have been some minor damage at some point. It is not rust repair.

Email me if interested.

If this engine block has the original paint (red) then it came out of a 1955 Clipper Deluxe or Clipper Super, and would be 320-cid. The correct 352-cid block for the Caribbeans (and all 1955 seniors) would be painted ivory. The 352-cid block was also used on the 1955 Clipper Custom, and was painted turquoise.

Easy to check the engine number to verify which type it is.
