My speedometer sized up. I am trying to do what looks like the impossible, remove it by itself from the dash board, via under the dash. I have the reset knob out, cable off and one screw on the bottom out, does anyone know how many other screws at the top are holding the speedometer in? have I opened a can of worms I should just leave alone? removing the dash insert and or the dash itself looks like a major project I will be sorry I opened up.

When I couldn't understand how something came apart unser the dash where I couldn't see, I'd stick my phone camera up there and take a bunch of "blind" photos with the flash on. That usually helps with perspective on what's going on.

Great Idea.....I have a photo of of a complete dash from the rear from ebay, I can see where the screws are, I just don't think I will be able to get them back in, once they are out.

Here is a picture from junkbay. It is held in place on 10-32 studs and you may need to undo the gas/temperature gauge, radio head, clock, and oil pressure/ammeter as well depending on what order they share the studs.

Removing the glove boxes should allow better access than standing on your head.

Disconnect the battery.

Yes, as Tim shared, there should be three small screws/ nuts holding it in place. Reset cable is a nut on a ferrule, but make sure you put a wrench on the backside ferrule so as to not spin the ferrule and damage it.

Now that I'm thinking about it, none of those gauges are nested, so get the three nuts off and the unit comes off. As well we used to swap out the screws for studs per a service bulletin so it probably has screws.
