The solenoids on the inner fenders for the T/L (1956) Are they a Regular 12 volt NAPA item or somthing special? Thanks in advance Bob

I bought mine several years ago at Car Quest, but I would think you can get them at NAPA also. I'm always surprised by how many originals are still working fine.

They are NOT your standard "Ford solenoid"--those units are fed +12V when activated and the pull-in coils ground through the mounting bracket to body ground.
The solenoids Packard used on the '56 T-L system receive a GROUND from the torsion level compensation box and are fed +12V to the other side of the pull-in coils internally. I have seen exact replacements for the Packard units, wired as above in catalogues. I'll check the Cole-Hersee site tonight and file a report!

I purchased two #24046 solenoids from colehersee
When installed the power wire becomes neg and the case becomes positive. I also installed a solid state control box. Level system did work prior to one solenoid going bad. What have I done wrong . Thanks Bob

The solenoids that do work are NAPA #ST56

How about 1955? I haven't looked, but are the solenoids also mounted under the fender? If converted to 12V negative ground, would these work on the 1955 model?
