Junkyard finds in Billings MT

Since it was a beautiful 62 degrees today, and tomorrow is supposed to have 3 inches of snow, I thought I would make a run to my favorite junkyard here in town. I've attached some of the goodies I found. The most interesting is a rebadged 49/50 Packard (see the data plate). The engine number is interesting as well with the H 261253 number (last photo). Not sure exactly what it means. The car recently came to the yard, and the engine hasn't been stripped yet. The owner of the yard says it is supposed to run....

Anyway, when I asked him how much for the engine with everything, he said $350. I'm sorely tempted to get it for the accessories if nothing else. Another 48-50 car has been worked over except that it still has the radio, and most of the knobs look good.

There was another 288 block with pan sitting in the back of a pickup. It has a G prefix, so I guess it is a 48 or 49 engine.

Last item - found this gadget in the trunk of the car with the radio. I think it is part of the automatic clutch contraptions. Let me know if anyone wants it.

Your engine number per reference material indicates that that block, was originally intended for a 1949 (Series 2300) Standard and Deluxe Eights, which had engine numbers from H 200001 to H 291000 in 1949. Engine number reportedly used for 1950 Standard and Deluxe Eights began with number H 295000. Neat old find you have there!

I am sorely tempted to go buy the entire car. I forgot to check to see if the car had an overdrive. If it does, I would sure like to get the car and strip the mechanicals out of it for spares for my 51. Hopefully I won't need a new engine in my lifetime, but having all the accessories would certainly be nice.
