Just finished watching George Raft in the 1949 movie "Red Light" on TCM.

George drives a 1949 Packard convertible throughout the movie.

I couldn't find an image from the movie. All I could find was a pic of the car.

Perhaps someone has seen "Red Light."

The car in the movie was a 22nd series Custom 8 convertible.

Many times. It was on again last week(movies). I dont remember the date of the film but it's listed if you watch close. So can not be older than that since it takes months to produce the film.
Nothing like a good RAFT movie, except one with Bogey.
I think it's a "Victoria" since it has the winged hood ornament.

Hi

As a movie device to establish the wealth status of a character, nothing surpassed a new luxury nameplate convertible back then. High-priced convertibles were such a tiny percentage of annual sales, as such were immediately recognized as the type of cars bought only by the well-off.

The reverse situation was if they wanted the character to be perceived as a pretentious ne'er-do-well, an old, battered, dull-paint luxury car was just the ticket.

George Raft always played those well-off but somewhat notorious characters.

Proud 1953 Clipper Deluxe owner. Thinking about my next Packard, want a Clipper Deluxe Eight, manual shift with overdrive.

Thanks to you and the other respondents validating I wasn't out in left-field about Raft driving a '49 Packard convertible in "Red Light."

Since my knowledge of Packards is superficial at best, I can't ID Packards about the drop of a hat.

I appreciate the info about the series and model name.
