VEHICLE HISTORY/ PROJECT STATUS: | pfont size faceGathering information on my Dad's car (/fonta hreffont size facewww.1938darrinpackard.com/font/afont size face) and will update and correct as I get the information. Some info I have doesn't seem to match other Darrin Packard research I've done, like the VIN number. [Please feel free to point out information that doesn't seem correct, like the model or VIN.] Found the 8/21/195 sales document showing the type as Vict. and the Motor No. as A313463A./font pfont size faceGreat driving car - OVAC car club and family friend just took it out for a spin to the Bonhams Auction at Port Townsend - was hard to kee u with it. It was photographed in the parking log of the Auction by the /fonta href targetfont size faceOld Parked Cars/font/afont size face photographer./font pfont size faceHistory we've heard - that the car was originally built in California at Dutch Darrin's Sunset Stri site for Adolph Zukor (not sure if it was built for him personally or for Paramount Studios). That it was 1 of 5 "Sunset Strip" Darrins built in 1938 at the California site (where Dutch built 5 in 1938 and 11 in 1939 before he moved to Indiana where he built 39 in 194.) font faceSecond (? or subsequent)owner was a Boeing engineer who was too short to drive the car without three inch extenders on the brake and gas pedals. He brought it from California to Seattle. Third owner isstrong current owner,/strong who purchased the car in195. The extender pedals stayed with the car however since my mother and I are too short to reach the pedals (and can hardly see over the dashboard or the end of the car). I'm ok doing left turns but have difficulty seeing over the right front end of the car to do a right turn...it's so far away./font/font
Vehicle Modifications
MODIFICATIONS: | Car info - the is on a Packard 1601 chassis. I heard "Sunset Strip" and Victoria convertible (or roadster) used in reference to the model. The original 288 ci engine has been replaced by a 356 ci straight 8 (or 320ci). Tran is 3 on the floor./p p Front end: 1941 Packard Darrin front end, chrome original/excellent condition. (a 1941 grill clip installed in late 1940 by Dutch Darrin himself at the request of the owner after seeing a crash repair Dutch had made on a similar 1938 Darrin.)/p p /p p The car has had a super eight engine installed, a Mitchell Overdrive, power steering utilizing a mid 1950&rsquos General Motor&rsquos generator/power steering pump, radial ply tires on wire rims and minor electrical modifications that the current owner thought would make the car a better driver. It's a nice drive. A family friend statesstrong"The car is an excellent driver./strong I&rsquom not sure if the Mitchell is a 26% or 36% increase but it turns the car into a respectable highway cruiser.".
