PAINT NAME:
Black
INTERIOR DESCRIPTION:
Original houndstooth front and rear, protected by both factory and dealer-installed seat covers. All else redone in gray English broadcloth. Gray cut-pile carpet front and rear same as late model Mercedes because i wasn't going to use hogshair like Packard did in the One-Sixty-level Clippers. Front seatbelts. Deluxe steering wheel, chrome interior windshield garnish molding and handbrake lever.
EXTERIOR DESCRIPTION:
Postwar bumper extensions ("fender shields") replated with all else but removed with heavy postwar front license plate bracket, because these do nothing for the car's lines. Packard added those to bulk up the styling, feeling pressured by the muscular look of upper echelon GMobiles. Weight is the enemy in any road car, luxe or not.

Electromatic rebuilt but disconnected, later removed. Disliked the robotic aspect of that Rube Goldberg response to HydraMatic which automatically depresses your clutch pedal at long lights, doing your throw out bearing no favors.

Radio.

Driving lights.

Delivered from the factory without a heater, dealer-installed South Wind heater removed. Ever see a senior Packard shipped from Detroit sans heater?

Period Vaco top cylinder inverse oiler

Period Stewart-Warner tachometer.
VEHICLE HISTORY/
PROJECT STATUS:
Original 82,631-mile,  always garaged California car. Sold new 7/18/47 Virgil Negranti Packard-Cummins Diesel-White Trucks Sales and Service, 565 Higuera Street, San Luis Obispo, CA

Rebuilt, balanced, rewired stem to stern. Driven only for rare pleasure jaunts to keep
fettled. Checked "Show Car" under Planned Used in the above General Information box since the car's in show condition. No interest in trophy chasing.
Bay Area traffic's the worst in the nation after LA.  All dressed up, nowhere to go.

Curbing overpopulation should be the number one priority of every buff; amending our antiquated, agrarian tax code to encourage only "one or none" and adoption, pressuring the Pope and other religious leaders to do the same.

If you think this "politics" and not germane, try driving out here.

During Packard's era, national population a quarter to a third today's 350 million. People walked not drove short distances, took trolleys, streetcars, interurbans, obesity so rare they made a star out of Fatty Arbuckle.

A 2019 poll of 11,000 scientists reported in the Nov. 5th Bloomberg.com news showed them agreeing overpopulation the world's biggest problem, despite the consumer-driven media's blackout on the subject, this up from a 2013 poll of 2,000 UN scientists, their words, "bigger than climate."

You want to be around to enjoy an occasional jaunt in your Packard, go vegan per Drs. Neal Barnard, Dean Ornish, Caldwell Esselstyn, Joel Fuhrman (YouTube them).
According to UN and other vetted international studies, animals raised for meat and dairy produce more greenhouse gas than all the world's cars, trucks, buses, trains, planes, ships combined.

Still think the above off-subject? Internal combustion cars banned 2025 in Norway, the rest of Scandinavia, including collector cars, in 2030, the European Union by 2035.
France and the UK, say they'll hold out -- for now -- 'til 2040 and 2050. We can bank on, at the very least, increased fees and surcharges on i.c. cars here in the States

Packards were the leading choice of the world's embassies, driven by movers, shakers, decision makers, Supreme Court justices; something that might spur us beyond our usual focus on minutiae.

Either we act, live responsibly, or have no excuse to whine when the bell tolls for us.

Vehicle Modifications
MODIFICATIONS:
7.5:1 compression per Packard Service Counselor for owners wanting a trace more oomph using '48 327 head

Replaced factory 4.09:1 differential with 3.92:1

Historically correct blackwall radials in authentic bias ply 7.00 x 15 size

55-amp, 6-volt, positive-ground alternator

Pre-oiler for full oil pressure before starting, electric fuel pump for fast priming.

Matt black, nearly invisible Scott's auxiliary cooling fan added as safeguard in case of horrendous traffic back up but never used.

Blue dots, because Packard started it, with Cadillac, in '32, but only on their toplines.
