VEHICLE HISTORY/ PROJECT STATUS: | Having already restoreda 1954 PatricianIfound that I enjoyed driving these fine automobiles. My wife and I are more into the social side of the hobby. Based upon this background I further concluded my next Packard would be already restored. I also wanted ittobe a Pre-War Packard and Iplannedit also bea driver.During the course oflosing out on a couple of late-3's Packards Inoticed this '41 Deluxe in Hemings magazine. It had a rediculously high price on it for a 19 series Packard, but it was always listed when I did my monthly check for cars. Finally I called the owner and querried him. I told him he was asking way too much money for the car. He said that I had to see it in order to understand. It had received a frame-u restoration and was in Concourse condition, (who in their right mind would do a frame-u on a 19 series?) Intriguedby the phone conversation, I flew from Virginia to Washington state to look! I immediately fell in love with the little Deluxe and added her to my growing collection. Lesson learned is that it's hard to negotiate when you are in love. You can see why from the picture. Isn't "Bella" a pretty one? h2font color face sizefont facefont color faceTo transition a show car into a driver was a new experience. Show cars need only to look pretty and be able to drive from the trailer to the show field. To make this beauty into a driver required a working electrical system, a rebuilt front end, and an overdrive unit in addition to changing all fluids, rubber parts, and "dangling" things. It took approximately a year (plus) and some money to accomplish this effort. She now will maintain interstate speeds without endangering the other folks on the road./font/font/font/h2 | ||||
