VEHICLE HISTORY/
PROJECT STATUS:
This car was restored in 1977-78 by the Archie Wayne Blumhorst family near Slater, MO. and has been maintained by Archie and Rick (son) to date.
Paint was done by Jerry Welch in Glasgow MO. The interior was done initially by another fellow in Glasgow who misrepresented himself to us as an automotive upholsterer. The worst of his work was removed and replaced by A&B Upholstery in Sedalia MO.
We spotted the car on Charlie Hemme&rsquos farm sale near Sweet Springs, MO in early 1977. Dad (Archie) purchased the car from Ray Taylor of KCMO, the fellow who actually bought it on the sale.
It was a mess when we got it. The car had 6, miles on it. The engine had multiple major internal problems, which is probably why it was parked in the first place. It had set outdoors with a window broken for many years. Squirrels had filled it with walnut shells as well as destroying the interior. The floor was completely rusted out. We stripped it empty, sandblasted it, replaced the floor, rebuilt almost every major component - engine, rear axle, brakes, wiring, trim. It was a LOT of work. The car should probably have been a parts car, but we didn't know that then.
Parts to restore the car were not easily located, not many Packards found their way to the Midwest, most were on the coasts. We found some used parts from Tonner Salvage in Carrolton, MO, and some used and
N.O.S. parts from Mr. J.W. Myer in Rockville, MO.
The restoration was completed in time for the Slater, MO fall festival celebration in August 1978. It has been in quite a few parades and shows in the Slater and Marshall, MO area in the years since.
