VEHICLE HISTORY/ PROJECT STATUS: | Bought well-cared-for from third owner who had it for more than 44 years. He is a retired dealer mechanic, third generation of Packard mechanics from the Washington, DC area. Mechanically and operationally, this car is solid. Interior is vintage and front seat leather is worn and could be recovered on driver's seat cushion. Many NOS parts. Originally, this was one of few Esquire dealer-customized cars sold in the DC and MD and VA. Mechanically, there is very little that needs to be done to it. It's about as close to a Caribbean hardto as you can get, minus the seats and twin four barrels. The VIN would indicate a late May or early June 1956 build date there were only 12 more Four Hundred hardtops left to be built. This was an "Esquire" dealer custom, probably ordered through the Harry du Bois distributorship, and delivered to McNey Packard at either of their Washington DC or Bethesda, MD dealerships just as Detroit production was finishing at the Connor Avenue plant. Have since obtained June 14, 1956 build sheet with SPEC options, shipped to DuBois Motors in VA. | ||||
