INTERIOR DESCRIPTION: | Poor. Will require restoration. Heater core box was removed
allowing rodents/vermin to enter through firewall and damage
seating and padding. Otherwise intact with excellent hardware
and trim. Thankfully, all glass is intact and other than some
side glass delamination, the seals are tight and prevented
weathering. | EXTERIOR DESCRIPTION: | Overall very good. Trim is dinged up, but will be professionally restored.
Surface rust with rocker panels having small rust-through, though will be
completely replaced. Driver side floor pan has small rust holes along sill
plate, but remaining floor pans appear to be solid when viewed from under car.
Frame is solid... an Engineering friend told me "You bought a car with a bridge
attached to the body". No kidding... it's thick and solid. Steering linkage has
some missing parts, as can be evidenced in the photo gallery located in the
Packard 400 link under Vehicle History section. Trunk is also filled with a
bunch of OEM parts, many appear to have come from this particular car. Goldmine!

OPTIONAL EQUIPTMENT: | Unknown to full extent at this time. Too new to Packard vehicles to know what is standard vs optional. Does have radio, power antennae, Easamatic braking system, and likely more once trunk and cab have been inventoried.
VEHICLE HISTORY/ PROJECT STATUS: | Unknown at this time. Came from Minnesota auto recycling yard that specializes in classic/vintage collectible cars. Photo shows Minnesota Collector plates, but car came from a 77-car lot purchase from an unnamed Wisconsin collector/hoarder. Paid $15 for car as-is. Planned project is long term restoration. Undetermined if vehicle will remain with current paint scheme or a different Packard color scheme. Interior will remain OEM/stock in appearance once completed. Prefer to be as original to factory build as possible, but as a Graphic Designer/Technical Illustrator/Artist, I always tend to follow what is most aesthetically pleasing to the eye while best complementing the lines of the vehicle. This all goes without saying that vehicle is untitled, and all work beyond cleaning and inventory will remain on hold until a title sans potential lien(s) is obtained. This is, to me, a car worth fighting for, and saving from parts scavenging. Here's a link to some more pics of the car. Never mind the engine photos, as they are from a 1952 next to the one I bought, and were taken for reference: a href targetPackard 4 pics/a More pics and there is a lot of hidden gems inside the trunk and cab. a href targetPackardPics2/a
Vehicle Modifications
MODIFICATIONS: | Need to obtain correct model year engine/trans for complete rebuild. It's desired to increase the HP/torque via STS turbocharger system. Increase is for climbing agility & ability as this car will get driven, and Rocky Mountains are a preferred family destination. My opinion is that braking is more important than acceleration, so Wilwood front disc brakes equipped with a proportioning valve will replace front OEM drums. Suspension requires complete overhaul as well, so will replace stock anti-sway bar with heavy duty version, along with urethane bushings (when possible) all around. New wheels will be NOS or reproductions of Packard wire spokes & whitewalls. Not purist, but appears to have been available options from literature I've seen. This is a family project car, so I was out-voted on stock wheels with hubcaps. Seat belts all around for 6 passengers. Before any of this can be started, entire car needs to be inventoried for damaged and/or missing parts. There is no rush to get this done and on the road as quickly as possible. It's a Packard. It seems to me that anything less than factory will be a great disservice to the brand.
