VEHICLE HISTORY/
PROJECT STATUS:
pOn my bucket list is a Route 66 trip. I have chosen to do that in a post war convertible shortly after retirement a few years out. I researched cars and quickly found that the 22/23 series Packard Custom 8 Victoria may be the very best choice. The combination of power, torque, gearing set u
and absolute mechanical simplicity of the 356 with manual trans and OD make this the perfect fit. My plans would be to get it reliable and use it a lot. Then when ready shove off for CA with no schedule. This car is beautiful but had not been driven much for a dozen years or so. Many things barely or didn't work. Front end was shot. So I bought the car site unseen was thrilled with its appearance and have been sorting out one issue at a time. Car is now running quite nicely and I put close to 2 miles on it this year, without any issue. Now away for winter. Next year will be tires, exhaust system, and a to
cylinder. I have found this forum invaluable along the way. 4 years ago I had a 23 series 4 door and completely rebuilt motor, so I had a head start and maybe even a bias to Packard quality. I may go to a show or two but I bought this car to be my car and not to show but to use. I will try to kee
it nice, but enjoyment comes first. It is not of show accuracy but for people other than Packard officiandos it stops traffic. My wife and I have now had many hours of to
down cruising on the rural roads of Indiana with sounds by iPod thru Bose soundlink. Looking forward to next summer.
