Back on the road after 56 years:

About 1 years ago I bought this car off Ebay. It was before you could have people go look that them for you and I have to say the car was not represented well. I finally got the old girl home and found out that the issues that I was going to have, There were many. But this is the story I was told when I bought the car. In 1948 a brother and sister bought this beauty and drove it till 1952. Death took her brother and she didn't drive so she left it in the warehouse in NY. After her death the Warehouse sold it to pay off storage fees remaining. Now not to dis a woman but she never did anything to the car it just sat in a dam
warehouse. Fast forward to the day they unloaded her off the truck. Well you can guess how excited I was. But my first problem was trying to find out what kind of Packard I had. After a few stints with the Packard club I had a answer. 1948 custom 8 in packard blue with blue broadcloth with white pipping. So my first task was to see if she ran and by god she started right u
and I backed here into the barn. The next spring I took here to a guy to have the paint stripped off and painted. But after a year and many thousands of dollars I decided that this was not the place to spend the money. Then orce hit, Yikes what to do with the Packard. So I brought her back home and had her out side the road for sale but not a taker. THANK GOD, And at that point of my life and broke to boot. I was talking to a neighbor and he said call this guy he will get some paint on her before she just rusts to nothing. So that I did. Not a great paint job but painted. Now fast forward to last fall and I decided I have a few extra bucks to see how the old gal is holding up. I at first cannot get her to start so I redo the points and plugs and then distributor and a new battery and with my fathers hel
I jum
in (hood off) and she starts right up. But then we realize the bigger problem. The old lady in NY never winterized the car and there was a crack in the block about 15 inches long. So I shut the car off and said well I guess I have another challenge. Can you imagine that all this with a car with 27k on her? But two weeks later on saturday I was on ebay again and what do you think I find but a engine for her same year and all and same size. And the best yet is that is about 2 hours away. So sunday morning I decided that I am not going to auction I will just buy it and I look and they have dropped the price and I call the guy and talk to him and it was out of a running car and it is just fine. So with a very fast click I bought it. And in three weeks I had the car to the mechanics for the winter and now with new engine installed, clutch, transmission, rear end work also, with all new breaks and muffler. I got my call to bring her home. So with plates in hand and dragging my grill and bumpers I took off to get her. About 2 hours later I started her u
and drove her the 3 miles home. Ran pretty good but with the hel
of this site I have gotten the engine to run much smoother. I also have been blessed with a rotted out parking light and I have looked hi and low with no luck so I have had to get creative and make my own. As of this moment I have the break lights to go and she will be on the road each weekend I have a chance. Thanks for letting me share my story.
