VEHICLE HISTORY/ PROJECT STATUS: | The Packard was sold 5/8/39 by PMCC of NYC. Known (to me) history begins in 1978 when it was purchased from the estate in Bethleham, NH by a gentleman from Gorham, NH. It was in a restoration facility from 21 to 25. I have most but probably not all the billing and correspondence generated during the work. The gentleman who bought the car and had the work done passed away around 216 and I bought it from his grandson who had no interest in it. The original engine had cracks in the area of the valves, it appears to have been repaired more than once before and some repairs are less than elegant. Engine was replaced with correct '39 Super Eight engine, summer of 218.
Vehicle Modifications
MODIFICATIONS: | The car has R-9 overdrive which was permanently locked out with twisted heavy wire. A relay, cable, kickdown switch and wiring were installed and the very heavy lube drained and replaced with the correct viscosity lube. Still had no OD engagement despite the electrical components (including the solenoid) operating correctly. After ~ 1500 miles of driving the R9 finally 'limbered up' and is operating satisfactorily.
