VEHICLE HISTORY/ PROJECT STATUS: | The car was originally sold in Webster, Massachusetts on Monday, April 18, 1932 by the "Webster Place Motor Car Company" who is still in business today as a Ford dealership. A service sticker in the door jamb says the car was serviced by Tom Charnley on December 22, 1953 in Newton Centre, Massachusetts. The car was acquired sometime prior to 1953 by Roderick M. Blood of Newton, Massachusetts who used it as his daily driver. Roderick Blood was president of the Vintage (Veteran) Motor Car Club of America from 1942 through 1944 and assembled a collection of 30 cars, mostly Packard’s. Upon the death of Mr. Blood in May 1966, the car was sold at auction (Sept 1966) to the Harrah Automobile Museum in Reno, Nevada where it was on display from late October 1966 until early May 1969. Photos taken by the Harrah museum staff in October 1966 show that when the museum bought the car it was fairly complete with only a windshield wiper arm and a cigar lighter missing. However, my car was used as a parts donor for a Series 900 coupe-roadster that was later purchased by the late Hollywood actor, Ed Herrmann. The Harrah museum restoration shop drained the coolant from the radiator and engine block, and washed the car before placing it on display. In May 1969 the car was sold to a Harrah's Hotel-Casino employee who had worked for the Harrah's Hotel in Reno for over 41 years. That owner stored the car in his home garage in Reno until he passed away in 2019, with his estate being settled in 2023. Evidence shows that he never drove the car as the parts that were removed by Harrah were still missing when I purchased the car from his estate, via a used car dealer in Reno, in August 2023.
Vehicle Modifications
MODIFICATIONS: | The car is basically stock except the previous owner tried unsuccessfully to install a Carter BB-1 carburetor. The fuel line and throttle linkage for the Carter were never connected. The original Detroit Lubricator 51 carburetor was missing, but a numbers-correct replacement has been found. The original air cleaner and intake air warmer box is missing along with the under-dash control rod for the "Ride Control".
