VEHICLE HISTORY/ PROJECT STATUS: | Originally delivered, new, in Grand Rapids, MI, this car somehow wound up in Arizona in the late 1950s and remained in the hands of the same owner for over three decades. However, after 1977, it spent most of its time under a waterproof car cover, which was not good for the original factory paint. In the late 1980s, the owner decided to relocate to his hometown in Pennsylvania, but when he couldn't get his asking price for the car, he had it trailered back East, in hopes of restoring it. My friend had always wanted a Caribbean, but he wasn't even aware of this car's existence, right in my own hometown - until it "found" him in 1991 He bought the car in 1992, without haggling on price. It took a lot of buffing, cleaning and detailing to make the car presentable, and a little mechanical work made it roadworthy, for awhile. He showed the car a few times locally, but retired it to long-term storage after 1997 due to too many other projects. I very recently acquired it and will continue with some additional mechanical work and a cosmetic restoration, to return her back to the road. | ||||
