VEHICLE HISTORY/ PROJECT STATUS: | To my knowledge, the Caribbean was originally owned by Constantino Lacutas, he was a Detroit restaurant owner who owned the Caribbean had often took it to belle isle for family trips, during his ownership he brought it to Tony’s radiator shop (a Detroit business now gone) during its time at the radiator shop the current owner had removed the hood louvers and the Dual carb set up was taken off. Constantino stopped paying his bills on the car due to a family issue so the car was left in the parking lot of Tony’s radiator shop, the engine block cracked, the dual carbs were scrapped on accident by one of the mechanics and the Caribbean laid untouched till Marvin King (motor city Packards and co owner of patrician industries) bought the Caribbean, he took it home and then took a visit to the previous owners home much to his dismay the house was abandoned BUT Marv saw an open window to the basement and climbed in, on a shelf in the basement he found the hood louvers and reinstalled them to the hood, Marv never got the car running and sold the Caribbean to an ex Packard mechanic in the Detroit area named Fred Hirsh who then sold it to Kevin Luedtke. Kevin’s father purchased the Caribbean in 1973, it was Kevin’s first car as a teenager. Kevin worked on this Caribbean here and there through highschool, college and then his adult life, he drove the Caribbean and enjoyed it till 1991 when the engine started running rough, he then had his Pal Craig rebuild the engine and pop it back in the Caribbean, but it stayed parked waiting for body work. I first saw the Caribbean in the Fall of 2023 Kevin drove me out to see it in person and I fell in love with the Caribbean. I purchased it in spring of 2025 after finally setting up a good deal and having the funds to get the car. This Caribbean is my first classic car and first Packard and I’m currently enjoying it. This Fall as of 2025 me and my Sweetheart (Marisol) will be starting the process of restoring the Caribbean. First step is brakes and it’ll be back on the road, we intend to enjoy the Caribbean as is for now until we get all the chrome we want to replace and then we will fix the rust in the body and repaint. | ||||
