VEHICLE HISTORY/ PROJECT STATUS: | Bought in late 6's or early 7's from a couple of young fellows who had shortly before bought it from an elderly person. Complete and well cared for, but Ultramatic did not lock up. Local former Packard dealer adjusted and had no further trouble for 5, miles except shifting became very positive (rough). At about 7, miles, burnt a rod. Local AMC dealer had a new Packard engine ordered but not paid for by a Nash/AMC owner. Cost me $3. Drove about 5, miles more before putting in storage for 3 plus years. Began restoring about three years ago. Carb was stolen early in storage days, squirrel crawled in, couldn't get out and left moisture in cylinders. For some reason, both heads were frozen. Bought motor claimed to be from an Executive and in good shape. It wasn't. Had the heads redone, new rings installed and an Aller oil pum installed. Expect to replace that with the Olds high volume pum as pressure too low at hot idle.Brake lines were rotted out, so replaced. Bendix power brake rebuilt by Florida specialist.Ultramatic rebuilt and works like a charm except for occasional flare from low to high. Carb replaced with another 4 barrel from my other 55 4. Vintage A/C installed, but unhappy with evaporator. It restricts opening glovebox door and the fan is noisy. Probably all A/C fans 5 years ago were noisy, tho. Replaced both rear axle bearings as precaution as a very bad bearing in the other 4 at about 5, miles. Need new pad and plastic to cover dash top. Torsion level works well, power steering leaks. When Olds oil pum installed, will have car repainted original colors with modern paint. It drives very well but is a gas hog. Will install picture later. As of 2022 owned by Reyman's estate since his passing in 2018 and stored in a friend's garage Marked as "SOLD" Replaced in Registry by this entry -packardinfo.com/xoops/html/modules/registry/index.php?Action=view&ID=3810 Ozstatman 27th September 2022/ | ||||
