PROJECT STATUS:
pWhat was I thinking? Saw this car on eBay. There was only a photo taken from the front and it looked like the to
had been hacked off and the sides missing. "Perfect" I thought, &ldquohow could I feel bad about parting this out? It looks like a disaster.Front end cli
looks good thoughand there's possiblyHenney parts for my '41 Henney Service car.&rdquo

pThen I caught a glimpse of chrome along the driver's window. Hmmm...that shouldn't be there unless...ye
it was one of the most gorgeous '41s made, the Henney Model 4198 Landaulet. The to
hadn't been hacked off, it was a material to
(Meritas) thathadrotted or been torn off. The only one I had ever seen wasin McPherson's 'American Funeral Cars and Ambulances' and thought it was just stunning - even if it was a hearse. I may be wrong, but I believe this is the only '41 Packard with wood framing (okay, except for woodies).

pWell I was the only bidder and I got it. I drove a couple hundred miles to pick it u
The wood was all rotted, it had been taken apart and the previous owner was attempting to make new wood for it and gave up.

I filled aone-ton picku
with wood bits and pieces, the two side doors and rear door, the metal panels along the roof edge, running boards and many boxes of &ldquostuff&rdquo and black widows galore. Come to think of it myother Henney has produced three black widows including the biggest one I&rsquove ever seen.

pAll the doors and metal work are there, the interior is completely gone, dash is missing allinstruments, the engine is a '42 16 with a high compression head. If it is ever to be put back together I'll have to somehow find the Henney blueprints for the wood framing.

pIsent the details to George Hamlin and he said it was the only one he knew of.I have since heard of another one that was restoredbut have not been able to contact the owner. The end result? With a car this rare I can't bear to part it out. However, I can't afford to tackle a project this huge. So like King Midas, I sit and ponderwhat to do with my "treasure."
