VEHICLE HISTORY/ PROJECT STATUS: | pThis Packard was purchased new in Wahpeton, ND at Holthusen Implement, by a Doctor from Hankinson, ND. It was driven the first 38, or so miles from 1949 till 1956, when it was taken off the road and stored. The doctor died, an estate sale was held, and a neighbor bought it and added it to his car collection and used it for the occasional parade or car show. pI saw this car at a National Concours Show and Judging held in Mhd. , Mn. in about 1982, but it was not for sale then. In 1989, I later answered an ad for a 1949 KB-6 International Truck in Hankinson, ND and the Packard was parked beside it with approximately 4, some odd miles. The IHC had 9, actual miles, and I arranged to purchase both vehicles from the collector. pIt has all the original paint, interior and mechanical pieces as from the factory delivery point to thefirst owner. It has a NOS look to all its componentry, a patina and smell that only time can give with a carefully stored auto. It has no visual defects, no vermin problem ever, and shows and rides like a new 1949 Packard would. The original spare tire is in the trunk and still holds air, which is probably 1949 Detroit City air. pIt will be my pleasure to be this auto's guardian and conservator as both it and I grow old together. A true survivor. | ||||
