Interesting, the 53 caribbean has additional hood props, looks like gas charged things. Interesting idea since you almost need two people to open the hoods on these cars.

I was referring to the hose delaminating and closing up internally which is a very common thing and it is totally invisible from the outside. It happens to the rubber brake lines too even with the hose feeling pliable and soft.

I have checked both upper 2-3 shifter and lower 1-R
I disconnected turnbuckle rods to transmission rods. They they turn freely. I have checked the transmission rods and transmission and manually moving the rods and the transmission seems to be working properly With everything together I still cannot get R-1 to move and 2-3 shifter works properly I don’t know what to do.

packardsix1939, thanks for the auction report, that contains many award winning cars.

Never seen before, no original equipment. Quote: 1942 Clipper 180 Touring Sedan. Fully restored; CCCA national award winner. One of only two of this model known to exist (Body No. 1522). Sold for $55,000. The auction description reads: "The most expensive Packard model offered in 1942." Is that true? How about a Custom Super Eight One-Eighty Touring Limo, not to mention a Custom Super Eight One-Eighty All Weather Cabriolet by Rollson or a Custom Super Eight One-Eighty Touring Limo by LeBaron? And I miss A/C to be the most expensive Packard model offered.

Yes, I'm missing two, and one of the ones I have is pretty dinged. I'll measure them in the morning and report back.
Thanks!

It is a lot less likely that your pump is "sucking air" from the tank than it is leaking or sucking air from the flex line at the fuel pump. These rubber hoses dry rot/smog rot and can have dozens and dozens of tiny slit cracks in them when they age. Quite often these little slits are not revealed visually unless you remove the hose and bend it in good lighting. Then the slits become obvious. Don't go after a mosquito with a sledge hammer. I have owned lots of V-8 Packards over many years. I learned long, long ago. Whenever you have a problem like this, first thing to inspect and replace is the flexible connection at the fuel pump— even if seems to look okay. If this doesn't correct the issue... then look to the tank.

BK; Are you missing two straight bars on the trunk rack? If so how long as I have some if I can find them. Dell

Stellar perhaps for an unrestored car that needs work but it’s not really too bad either. This place tends to be high priced so I was surprised that the asking price was far lower than I expected but perhaps still a bit much for what it is. Now if it were a well-optioned (with factory A/C) 1956 in the same condition of any model I might consider it but not a 1955.

The keyed handle was always passenger (curb) side only on most if not all prewar cars. With bench seats, it was easy to slide over to get out safely away from any traffic. If any RHD cars used the same handle, that would probably be your best bet, short of having one made.
