That sure LOOKS like the same thermostat as on my '39. My manual says to adjust the threaded rod until all the slack is taken up, then 1 1/4 turns more to 'preload' the springed shutter assembly. This works on mine and it completely opens and closes. My guess is either your T-stat is not 'throwing' completely, or possibly the linkage that connects your shutter assembly has been forced and is bent, such that it is not completing the open/close cycle completely. If the linkage was ever seized or jammed and the T-stat imposed it's considerable force on it, there could be some bent metal in there somewhere. Chris

That would be QUITE the auction to attend! Some 180+ vehicles in the pictures to my count and many of them at least semi-exotic. Hard to imagine accumulating that many cars over a lifetime; not sure at what point it goes from 'collecting' to hoarding, but it would be nearly impossible to maintain or manage a fleet like that. For all intents and purposes, they would just sit there and go to rack and ruin; somewhat sad, really. Now maybe selling them off at auction, some of them can get new owners and fresh starts and head back towards restoration and usefulness. Chris.

I'm sure those who know a lot more than I do will weigh in here, but I removed the steering box on my '39 and the gear does not come off the steering wheel rod - it is integral and must go with the steering box to wherever it is going to be rebuilt. I too thought mine should come off, but was quickly tuned in by the pros on here, that it does not. I am guessing your unit would be the same?????..... Chris
