We have a great AACA chapter here, but it will be much easier to participate in the Packard sport. Hope I have a chance to meet more of you Packard guys.

Be sure to investigate the AACA Des Moines region when you get there.

Try Tim Long, Dayton, Ohio. He restores them, and supplies replacement parts. I think he has some spares as well.

Werner Neil, in North Carolina, has a couple of sets. He got them from me. Last time I talked to him, he still had them for sale.

To dramatize the optional overdrive, Packard offered a '39-only 5,000 rpm (ridiculous, if deft marketing) tachometer, which replaced the clock in the glovebox door, imagining its monitoring of more interest to passenger than driver, apparently.

I'm pretty sure it wasn't really "offered" to the general public, though it could certainly have been bought by the general public. It does not show up in the accessories catalog. It was an accessory available to the dealers to show their customers, who may have been sitting in the passenger seat during the test drive... or at least, the first part of the test drive where the salesman demonstrated the use of the overdrive.

I think the best help you can give him is to let him know a realistic asking price. I suggest starting at $10,000, but even that would scare most people away.

If you're going to go through all the work of swapping the engine with something else, then wouldn't it make sense to install an authentic six-cylinder Packard and put it back to original? Purchasing a Six parts car should be relatively inexpensive, then you have all the needed pieces to make it right.

Well, shucks. The Jag engine is kind of what makes this car so exotic. It looks so "right" under the hood, whereas any V-8 (whether Packard or otherwise) will not look right no matter what. I understand the cost of fixing it, though.

"built at Dietrich" seems kind of funny to me for cars built after about 1930 or so, as I've always assumed that Dietrich wasn't even a company past then. Packard built all the bodies, and then just put the Dietrich tag on vehicles with his design.

Correct me if I'm wrong.

Interesting that Five Points seems to have gone out of business... or at the least, has dropped the ball.
The things I've heard about Apple recently, make me more confident that they have put their act back together. I know Mark Lambert was not a fan, and I told him what happened to me, and he said the exact same thing happened to him.
