The only steam cars made in 1917 were Doble and Stanley.

I suspect Ford made more model T's in 1917 than Stanley and Doble put together, ever.

I owned a 1908 Stanley and it was way faster than the Model T I own now.

Faster than my 54 Packard as well

We had talked of going to see a couple of folks who do head gaskets.

You provided a phone number which I can't find.

I still need to fix the Cavalier ans I have a couple of unsecured days this month.

I believe I have become too old and Lazy to do the head gasket although I have the tools.

I'm now in the find a competent mechanic and pay the bill.

Last time I did one on a Model A ford I broke a stud and then broke off an easy out in the block

How do we connect with the best man for the job.

I live north of Happy Valley Rd and west of 67th ave in Peoria AZ.

Most of those little ignition looking condensers (capacitor) will be between 3 and 5 mfd,

You can measure these with some multi-meters.

What needs to be checked is the leakage and the multi meters can't measure that as it takes about 500 volts.

We in the electronics business say it is never the tubes that go bad but always the capacitors.

I am in need of replacing the head gasket on my 54 Cavalier.

It leaks from the rear drivers side corner pop-pop-pop.

The head was off when the car was restored in the 1990's as I have pictures.

Last head job I did was on a model T ford in the 1970's.

I am seeking any suggestions such as how to remove the head in one piece, how to get old gasket materials off easy, What kind of sealer I should use etc.

Maybhe I should pay the guys at vintage auto repair here in Phoenix AZ,

I have a new head gasket in hand.

Suggestions are appreciated.

I spoke to the folks at Vintage Auto and I believe I will have them do the job. I just don't feel like ripping into the project.

I bought four new Coker tires for the baby and haven't gotten around to getting them mounted

So thanks for the sugestion.

Snce you live in the area you probably know my car.

After my morning drive in my 54 Cavalier I noticed a tic-tic-tic sound.

The head gasket is leaking combustion at the back end of the motor.

The last time I did a head gasket, on a Model A Ford I broke a stud and then broke an easy-out off and then towed it to a guy who torched out the broken stud which had been installed at a slight angle and tipped up straight, which cracked the threads flush with the top of the block.

I have replaced head gaskets since the "A" but not in a long time

I am now 50 years older and not in the car business.

The car was apart and restored in the early 90's and I know the motor was apart as I have pictures from the former owner.

There is always the possibility of breaking a straight 8 head not to mention the pain of doing the job.

Do any of you have wisdom to share I live in Phoenix AZ and it hit 110 F at my house today

I grew up driving the Old Man's 1950 Chevy with "three on the tree".

It had developed a problem where when shifting from first to second the linkage would lock up in first gear with the shift lever suck in neutral.

The only way to fix it was to park the car still stuck in low gear, turn off the engine and open the hood and pull up the low linkage.

It always did this at the least convienant time.
