1937 Battery Draw
#31
Home away from home

R Howe
I'm getting a battery drain on my '37 120 and have narrowed it down to current still flowing through the voltage regulator even when everything is shut off. I attached the 'battery' line to the regulator and put a test light between the 'ground' pole of the regulator and the 'ground' line from the generator and it illuminated showing that I did have current flow. Does my test truly indicate an issue or am I barking up the wrong tree?
I did disconnect every line except the ones that sent current from the negative pole of the battery to the regulator.
Thanks for your help.

Thank you and yes, I did see that paragraph on page 60 under "Important", however, it did not make much sense to me. Your explanation of what is supposed to happen makes that now more clear. I will have to wait until I return from my travels to correctly polarize the generator for I do not have the time now to reinstall my wiring harness and get everything set up. This will be on the top of my list when I return.
I have learned so much from all of you and you have my thanks.

Thanks. Yes, I do know they are relays and not solenoids and I cannot tell you why I named them as such. I went back into the archives and looked at the service manual. Their illustration of the connection of the regulator is exactly how I had it connected, thus causing the power draw. Well, at least, I think that was the correct connection. It looks like from the illustration that pole B attaches to the battery and then that routes back through ground to the positive side of the battery, thus causing the relay to close. Do you know if the highly insulated relay coil is supposed to be the pole labeled B, from the battery, or pole F, the field input from the generator? From what I have been told, this is the input that allows the relay to close thus allowing the regulator to do its job.
Thanks again for your help.

Thank you. I now see the manner in which this type of regulator should work. However, the only replacement regulator I could obtain was one with only two solenoids and when I have it wired as I thought it should be, one solenoid closes thus causing the current draw. Does anyone have a wiring diagram for this Auto-Lite 6 volt two solenoid voltage regulator that would show me which post goes where; battery, generator, third brush?
Again, I appreciate any information that you might be able to provide.

Thanks, that is what I thought should happen. I'll have to go into this one and see why the solenoid is closing and remaining closed when there is no current coming from the generator. I'll also get with the company that sold me my regulator and see what they have to say.
Thanks, again.

1937 Voltage Current Regulator Voltage Draw

Hello, all. I'm stumped. Does anyone know how much current a voltage regulator will draw with the system at rest? Mine has some draw which will drain the battery after about five days, which I didn't think was supposed to happen and I've narrowed it down to the voltage regulator itself. I get about .5 Amp draw with only the voltage regulator as part of the system.
As usual, I appreciate any information you might have concerning this.
Thanks.

1937 120C Headliner Installation

Does anyone have or can guide me to either photos of diagrams of the ceiling wood for my '37 120C Touring Sedan? I've been trying to figure out how to install the headliner and I think when I recreated the ceiling wood, I might have left something out. The headliner bows do not seem to want to fit with the wood as I have reinstalled it and in the old wood which I used as a pattern I cannot see any place where the ends of the headliner bows as supposed to fit.
Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Does anyone know where I might obtain a NOS voltage regulator for my '37 120C Touring Sedan? I purchased one some time back but it was not exactly what the doctor ordered.
So, I would like to see if I might obtain one that matched what I had on my car previously.
Thanks.

Hi. Does anyone know if the headliner bows have ends that allow the bows to screw into the wood or have tabs that are supposed to fit into recesses? I'm getting one bow from Max Merritt that is the far back one and it screws into its support. I'm wondering if the others do the same. If so, then the ones I currently have are definitely incorrect.
Thanks.
