Before, during and after a major hail storm with thunder and lighting this afternoon, I got the fuel pump back together finally other than the preload and frightening of the pump diaphragm. I should have done that one first as the vacuum section’s spring is too strong to easily overcome without a third had so my brother will help tomorrow.

Interesting and I've always wondered the same thing. The Packard in question here must be custom due to the green engine and painted head lettering (the engine should be grey) so I wonder how custom it is or if it's only a matter of color choices.

Out and on the road all day running errands including getting my cellphone’s battery replaced as it had turned into a pillow ready to explode but I did manage to pick up the driveshafts! I would have preferred fewer pits but maybe at some point those can be filled but probably not by me.

I believe I posted a photo of it long ago when working on the pump but here's another of the really worn arm that came from the car so it's a wonder it pumped at all!

This arm used a different connector type to one of the diaphragms and is not easy to disassemble or reassemble but fortunately, the pump should have had the one shown above which is easier so it must have gotten changed somewhere over the years.

I guess being virtually deaf has certain advantages as car radios are just so much noise to me so I don't even listen while driving or even riding in a car.

Thank you, Howard! That's what I was looking for but didn't think to look in my (father's) beat up 1956 Motor's Manual and not even sure where it is! The Packard manuals, of course, are not too helpful for details.

Back in the ‘70s, the first quadraphonic TV broadcast I ever heard utilized AM for one channel. The TV was another, and stereo FM were the other two! Getting it all set up was a challenge but in the end, it sounded good! Nothing like today’s digital multichannel systems of course but not bad for the era.

Max Merritt should have them NOS but it is an odd thread. I have a couple somewhere that may be NOS that came in a load of old dealer parts that I bought years ago and always wondered what the threads were. As a prototype journeyman machinist who saw just about every kind of thread imaginable, that one had me stumped. Howard suggested Acme and it does resemble one but the proportions are wrong.

My 1937 Chevrolet sedan that I had when I was 14 years old (the only kid in junior high being driven to school in his own car!) had a large button or pedal-like device on the floor which actuated the starter. Very hard to access for replacement so I would take the carburetor switch any day! I think the family's 1941 Chevrolet flatbed truck also had the same pedal arrangement. On the 1937, I would generally go out mornings and just use the crank as it was more dependable.

As far as I know, Packard didn't use anything like that in your era. They used the type that hooked into place.
