Correct Brian. The late engines had an intermittent squirt (once every rotation of the cam I recall). The early engines had a continuous flow and that was one of the issues with the lifters not getting enough oil. The intermittent cam spacer held more pressure in the lifter oil passage.

Allison was an advanced thinker for sure.

What caught my eye as "odd' are the inboard drum brakes. Not surprising since production discs were still a few years down the road, but still odd.

The ZIM appears "inspired" by 1947-49 Cadillac styling cues.

Unlike the above mentioned Packard-made marine engines, these were not available in counter-rotating pairs to my knowledge.

I believe the counter rotation can be achieved with the gear box. I have seen BW Velvet Drives stamped RH or LH. I have a Santee marine conversion (352 I think) I'll see if I can find & post photos.

Thanks guys,

I got a Dorman door handle clip tool at Autozone for $6 and it worked like a charm.

Now..... does anyone know offhand what size "c" clips are needed to retain the two pins at the top of the scissor mechanism that raises and lowers the window? Looks like the OD of the pins is ~ 1/4", not sure if I can get a mic in there to measure. Otherwise, I'll just buy an asst of sizes that look close.

TIA

Got it done. I found one of the old clips in the bottom of the door, it was wire type that looks like a miniature bobby pin. I bought an asst of misc clips & pins at the parts store for $5.99 so I guess I'm set for life.

Thanks again guys & especially Kev for hosting such a valuable site.

Welcome Grizzy

The Executive hardtop was a 1956 only model and came only with the 352 cid V8. 1953-54 Executive sedans were long wheelbase Henny Patricians identical to the limos except without the divider glass between the front & rear.

'56 Execs are very desirable cars, they have the "Senior" (Patrician, Caribbean, 400) front end with the Clipper tail lights. If the title or registration says 1954 it is a typo.

Cheers,

John

Thanks HH & Craig. I need to get a fanbelt @ NAPA tomorrow and I'll see if they have the tool. The one I made from sheet aluminum didn't work...too thin I think.Quote:

I thinned the paint a bit more (new can of Lowe's lacquer thinner) and adjusted the gun for a heavier spray and it looks better. I still have a 359 to paint and I think I'll try either the Imron (if I can get it here) or try Kanter's engine paint.

Thanks for the help!

PS The Stude GH valve covers are there to keep the dust out

Hi all,

I need to remove the passenger side door handle on a 1956 in order to repair an off track window. My eyes are not what they used to be, so I'm not sure if I have the type A or B clip. I have some sheet aluminum to make a tool, but I'm not clear on which direction to push the clip.

The handle points down and forward at about a 7:00 o'clock position looking straight on at the door panel. Should I push up in line with the handle toward a 1:00 o'clock direction? Is there a R & L version of the handle? Looking at HH's photo, it looks like you push towards the casting number to release the clip?

Thanks!
