My 52/200 has a postive ground to the engine. nothing more.
seems to work fine. My next project is to make sure i have the proper guage cables etc. And i won't consider ever converitng the car to 12 volt. I can't tell you how many
'experts' since i bought this car in july have told me i have to replace to 6 volt syst. with a 12 volt.

hello everyone. i have not been on this site for a while . i had computer troubles and just got back on line. I just got acquianted with this site last july when i bought my first Packard.
Here in Hilo< hawaii we get a lot of rain this time of year and i have had way too many projects that have kept me away from my car.
I tried to get the packard started, but it wasn't too willing. i always refer to this site for help. So yesterday i set out to replace the plugs, wire, cap and rotor . etc.
I noticed the old plugs were very loose. only hand tight, and very black. I replaced the plug wires because i noticed one was bad,,,it broke.
i worked real hard on the distrib. made it clean etc. cleande all the wire contacts, replace some old wire. new cap, rotor& points. I had a great time doing this. i just took my time. today she started up with out too much trouble. and i drove around the neighborhood.
this site sure is a big help. found out about lubricating the distrib. in 2 places. all great info.
now that i have the new computer i want to get more pix posted.

I agree. This is a terrific hobby....
I have been fascinated by old classics all of my life. My grandfather and I used to take the train to Reno for a few days and spend out time at Harrahs museum. me, taking pictures and my grandfather telling me everything he knew about the cars..... and he knew quite a bit.

Then last july i bought my 52 200 deluxe quite unexpectidly. And it has really changed every thing . I have never had so much fun. I can't wait to learn more and try new things. and this site has been the biggest help. I was off line for about 2.5 months. computer went down. boy did i miss you guys. now i am back on line and studying more. I wish every one a happy new year.
This coming year i will be busy building more suitable storage for my car. that is my priority now....my biggest job.
this wk.end i will replace plugs , points etc. I also need to drop the fuel tank and repair a leak etc.

i am still learning about this site too. that takes time . i am not too quick with computer stuff.

ok. so what i have the antena swithch and the switch that i think is for the antena is the radio fade switch and probably none are for a washer.
THANKS. I think i will put this topic to rest. enough for now and a sincere thanks to all who contributed.

i agree, this is becoming a mystery. it would be interesting to know the history of this car , or any old car. who owned, who first bought it and with what options. on and on we could go. Then when you include my lack of knowledge........
But , that is the joy of this hobby . the discovery and learning. And i am in no rush.
the antenna knob seems to be frozen, and it has been disconnected( all the wires are there)/ I still think this knob is for a washer, but strange no jets on the windshield.
if this knob is for radio fade wouldn't the action be different, more left to right , rather than a spring loaded type push....?
isn't the radio fade knob on the radio itself, the center ring on the left????

there are no washer jets on the wiper mounts and no holes, and no plugs.
the windshield wiper knob on the steering columm is just a knob, one way on and one off.
my power antenna switch is to tthe left of this swicth. i haven't figured what controls the speaker in the rear yet. my radio is in the car , but does not work. i should be able to check for the radio operation in the book/ ./

this switch is directly beneath the headlight switch. and it is the exact same switch as the other switches. i have a power antenna switch to the left of this switch. i still think this switch is for a power window washer no longer in the car. however ther are no water jets on the windshield. but there is a place to attach tubing inder the dash where the wipers are. and the wire from the switch goes into and up the stearing columm. for now i am satisfied that this switch is for a washer unit.
i love these mysteries.
