I'd check to see if the float is sinking, as well as making sure the needle is fully seated.

I keep forgetting that the 1931 models were fitted with mechanical pumps (vs vacuum).

Are you using gravity feed, or do you have an electric fuel pump connected?

Per Parker Roaf: It looks, at first glance, that the float is sunk or the needle is not seating fully in its seat

I am familiar with Mann's, and they are a fine crew.

Craig/Deborah,
Did you ever find an Ed Blend book? I may have one, and could bring it to Virginia Beach with me.

There are Darrins all around the country. Where are you located? Perhaps we can get you in touch with another owner in your area.

Perhaps I'm mistaken (not unusual), but I believe all 1930 Packards had the four-speed transmission.

In regard to the steering wheel, The 1931 wheel is indeed much nicer than the 1930. Most people are unaware of this subtle "modification" to our Speedster, but it sure looks better, and it's much more desirable to hold onto as well.

Tim
I'm curious about the difference between the 740 and 840 roadsters. Wouldn't they be the same, other than the front fenders? If they are the same, then isn't it possible that 840 fenders were installed?

Based on this photo I just happened across, it looks like the car went to Belgium, and received a beautiful color change.

While I'm a purist... I'm also impressed. When you say it "isn't pretty," I don't quite understand. That is beautiful work. In my opinion, it looks factory made (maybe not Packard factory ... but nonetheless, factory).

I, too, am eager to learn how well this works, and if your fuel mileage will increase.
